Dear Stephen

Notification of an Industrial Dispute under Clause 380 of the Sydney University Enterprise Agreement 2013 – 2017 (the Agreement).

Failure to Properly Consult under Part I: Managing Change of the Agreement

The NTEU provides formal notification to the University of Sydney that we are currently in dispute regarding the above matter.

Details of the Dispute:

  • The University has notified staff of an intent to transfer the Sydney College of the Arts to the University of New South Wales from the 2017 academic year;
  • The University has signed a Heads of Agreement with UNSW to that affect;
  • The University has not provided a draft change proposal as required by Section 313 of the Agreement;
  • In anticipation of the transfer, the University has ceased taking enrolments into SCA degrees for 2017;
  • By entering into the Deed and closing applications to courses the University has effectively commenced implementing the changes;
  • This has been carried out without the consultation required under 380 of the Agreement.

The University must immediately stop all processes to implement any change until consultation has been completed.  I look forward to meeting with you to further discuss this matter.

In Union,

Michael Thomson
